Well, this is me.

Well, this is me, a neurodivergent mom and chicken lover. I am KristaRee and have lived in NC most of my life. I had chickens as a kid, and had you told me I would have them as an adult, I would have laughed and said never. My youngest son and I pet-sat for a neighbor with chickens in the summer of 2015, and my son, who is autistic, loved them. He engaged with them in a way he didn't with other animals. So of course, we got chickens. Little did I know they would become a special interest for me and a hobby I thoroughly enjoy.

Over the years, I have had a lot of different breeds, and I eventually settled on bantams, I esp. love Belgian breeds. I was introduced to Belgian Watermaal and Belgian d'Anvers at the same time and fell in love with them. While there are very few poultry breeds I've met that I don't like, there is just something really special about these tiny little raptors.

In 2021 I went to my first poultry show and had a fantastic time, I got the showing bug. I was so intimidated about showing, but I met a fantastic lady named Darlene who showed me the ropes and gave me my first show bird Ziggy. Darlene and I have been traveling all over to shows in different states ever since. Darlene is the breeder behind Hot Rods and Hot Chicks and we started breeding colors of d'Uccle that are hard to find and call them the Red Hots lines. Darlene just joined me in Watermaal in 2024.

I have joined several breed clubs and made wonderful friends thru them. In 2025 I started making rosettes after taking some classes and found an art/Craft I could tie to my love of poultry.
